Juliana
Lam, founder / educator, was born and raised
in Vancouver, BC and began her music studies at
the age of 4 where she received many years of formal
training in classical piano and contemporary voice.
As a child, she competed and won at numerous music
festivals and earned honours at Royal Conservatory
of Music examinations. At the age of 16, she started
her successful music studio teaching piano and theory.
Her students have received first class honours at
RCM examinations.
Her early childhood education career began right
after the birth of her first child in 2002, when
she became extremely fascinated with baby brain
development and infant stimulation. She began as
a music and movement educator working with parents
and their babies - newborn to age 3.5. Juliana then
furthered her training and became certified to teach
Baby Sign Language and Infant Massage.
Being a firm believer of infant stimulation, Juliana
believes that in order to develop a well balanced
brain and exceptional thinking skills, it is vital
to stimulate babies with activities that use both
the left and right side of the brain. Juliana seeks
to promote teaching new parents to stimulate baby's
brain soon after they are born by optimizing their
mental, sensorial, social and affective development.
She is extremely proud of her capability and dedicates
her abilities as an educator to bringing knowledge
into the lives of new parents in a positive, supportive
and encouraging way.
Juliana was formally a personal trainer and was
involved in a few disciplines of marital arts and
obtained black belt at the age of 14. Besides being
owner/educator of Birth
& Beyond and running a successful
classical Piano
Studio in New Westminster, Juliana is also
a Mortgage
Broker AND is a proud mom.
Member of Early Childhood Music & Movement
Association
Cynthia,
educator, was raised in Delta, BC. She is proud
wife, homemaker, and mother of one. As a new mother
she was determined to help her baby daughter learn
and develop in the best ways possible right from
the start. After a thorough investigation, she decided
against relying on Baby Einstein DVD's and other
popular fads that did not truly help learning or
brain development at all. Instead, she discovered
the joy and proven success of interacting with baby
simply through reading, rhymes, music, singing,
and sign language in order to encourage healthy
brain and language development.
Cynthia holds a Bachelor of Social Work Degree
from UBC, where she was awarded the Marjorie Ellis
Medal as top of her graduating class. She has worked
with youth and families in various capacities for
over 10 years and is currently Director for New
Life Youth Ministry in Vancouver, where she is dedicated
to aiding young people with heir spiritual journeys
and healthy family functioning. In previous years,
she also worked as Prevention Coordinator in Surrey,
Delta, Ladner, and Tsawwassen high schools where
she assisted students through education and counseling
in making healthy lifestyle choices in the context
of their school, family, and community. Educating
and supporting young people, parents, and families
at important stages of life has been long-time calling
and passion for Cynthia. Since becoming a mother,
this passion has evolved to include a particular
focus on supporting new mothers through the postpartum
and the early childhood stage.
Music has always been a love of Cynthia's. As a
young child, she grew up studying Royal Conservatory
Piano and sang in children's choirs and musical
productions. In high school she joined the Vocal
Jazz Ensemble and performed at local music festivals
and competitions. Since then, she has expanded her
musical repertoire to include acoustic guitar and
electric bass. Music composition and sound engineering
continue to be a hobby when she can find time.
Cynthia is also a fitness enthusiast. While at
UBC she took several Human Kinetics courses and
trained as martial artist in Tae Kwan Do, Wu Shu
Kung Fu, and Kick Boxing. She also enjoys hiking,
jogging, pilates, aerobic fitness, and belly dance
She attributes much of her healthy pregnancy, smooth
delivery, and postpartum recovery to staying active
and making healthy lifestyle choices. Cynthia is
delighted to contribute to the well-being of new
mothers, babies, and families through the knowledge
and experience she has gained.
Karen's
journey as an educator all began when she was 17
years old. She received her black belt in kickboxing
and then started to instruct the kids classes the
next week. After a few years of instructing classes
and holding down a part-time job at Crash Crawlies
as entertainment staff, Karen decided to pursue
a career in early childhood education. She has been
working with children from newborn to age 12 for
the past 8 years. Karen has had the pleasure of
working with these children and their families in
many different environments from home, daycare,
preschool, summer camps and school.
In the past 3 years, Karen has geared her education,
knowledge and time in specializing in special education.
She has been working with children, their families
and school based teams in providing appropriate
education for children with developmental delays.
